Until my last breath By Dawn Yzaguirre Chapter Four
Note: This will be a Round Robin story between Dawn and Sharon "We hope you will enjoy our story"
As the weeks went on, everyone's anticipation for a wedding between Vincent and Catherine were growing. Since he'd brought her and their child home, Vincent hadn't let Catherine out of his sight. Father and Peter constantly monitored Catherine's condition. At times Catherine found the attention quite annoying, but she understood that both of the physicians were also acting as concerned grandfathers. One night at dinner, Catherine and Vincent were deeply involved in a conversation with Kanin and Olivia, when little Cathy scampered over to their table. Catherine turned and smiled at her beloved little name sake. "Hello Sweetie." Little Cathy grinned, "Auntie Cathy when you and Vincent gonna get married?" Catherine looked at Vincent to gauge his reaction. They hadn't really discussed anything about their future plans. Catherine gently pulled the little girl onto her lap. "We don't know." Little Cathy looked at Vincent, "You want to marry her. Right?" Vincent couldn't help but smile at the child's innocent question. "I'd love to marry her." Catherine's eyes snapped up, and she stared at him. Suddenly Lena approached. "There you are young lady!" Little Cathy looked at her mother. "I was just asking when Auntie Cathy was going to marry Vincent." Lena blushed bright red as she picked up her daughter. "I'm sorry if she's been pestering you." Vincent took Catherine's hand and squeezed it. "She's been very helpful." Then he rose and helped Catherine to her feet. "Can we go back to my chamber?" Catherine nodded silently as her heart began to pound in her chest. After bidding goodbye to Kanin and Olivia, the couple left the dining chamber.

Once they entered Vincent's chamber, he released Catherine's hand. She moved across the chamber and sat down in his ornate desk chair. Then she watched as he turned back toward the entrance of his chamber. Grabbing a lit lamp he moved out into the tunnel. When he returned a moment later he pulled a tapestry that Catherine had never seen out of his bureau and covered the entrance to the chamber ensuring them privacy. Moving over to Catherine he knelt down on the chamber floor in front of her. Taking her hand he kissed it tenderly. "Little Cathy is a very inquisitive child." Catherine looked down at their joined hands. "Vincent, you don't have to say anything." Vincent pulled his hand from hers and placed a finger over her mouth. "Yes I do." Then he rose from his knees and moved back to the bureau. Opening the top drawer he took something out. Moving back to Catherine, he once again knelt in front of her. "Catherine, this entire incident with Gabriel has taught me that we can't take one moment together for granted." Catherine's eyes began to tear hearing his words, "Vincent?" Vincent held out a small velvet box, "Open it."
Taking the box in her shaking hands, Catherine opened it and gasped. Nestled inside the velvet was the most beautiful diamond and ruby ring that Catherine had ever seen. Looking up again she stared into Vincent's beautiful eyes. "This is so beautiful." Vincent took the ring from the box. "Father has wonderful taste in engagement rings." Catherine's eyes widened. "Father gave you this ring?" Vincent chuckled. "Apparently before she died Margaret gave it back to him and asked that he give it to me to give to you someday." Catherine smiled thinking of the bitter sweet, but all too brief reunion between Father, and his true love. Reaching for Catherine's left hand Vincent held the ring just at her third finger. "Catherine, you've proven to me, that with love all things are truly possible. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" Tears spilled from Catherine's eyes as she looked up at Vincent again. "Yes, Vincent Yes I'll marry you!" She cried as she threw herself into his arms. The momentum of her body sent Vincent reeling backwards and they both hit the chamber floor. After a moment Catherine looked up at Vincent. "Are you all right?" Vincent suddenly burst into laughter and hugged her tightly. "I'm more than okay." Sitting up Vincent cradled Catherine in his arms, and slipped the ring onto her finger. "I promise to spend my life making you and our child happy." Catherine wrapped her arms around his neck. "I'm not sure I can be happier than I am right now." Then their lips met in a wonderfully sweet but passionate kiss. To be continued in Chapter Five Which will be written by Sharon Holtz
